Reopening schools 'among safest things to do over coming months'

Evidence is emerging that reopening schools and childcare facilities is among the safest things to do over the next couple of months, according to Taoiseach Leo Varadkar.

But we need to do it safely, he added.

Speaking to RTÉ News at a Contact Tracing Centre in Dublin city centre, Mr. Varadkar said it was encouraging that there is growing evidence that those who are least at risk from the virus are children and that they do not appear to be super spreaders.

"I think that is very significant," Mr. Varadkar said.

The Minister for Health Simon Harris said that "any report that helps us is welcome" but he added that we were still dealing with a virus that we are learning more about every day and therefore "evidence is inconclusive."
