Bosca Ceoil presenter Pauline Scanlon.

Irish music television rule book about to be ripped up

BOSCA Ceoil, TG4’s brand new Irish music television programme, airs on Sundays at 10 p.m., starting on September 28, presented by Pauline Scanlon of Lumiere.

Bosca Ceoil is not just a traditional Irish music programme of old but a fresh new format that will excite music fans of all ages. The rule book for Irish traditional music on TV has been torn apart!

The programme brings together an eclectic mix of famous faces and new artists. Episode one of 13 features We Banjo 3, Muireann Nic Amhlaoibh and Tony Byrne, Buttons & Bows, Tin Sandwich Band, Edel Fox and Neill Byrne, and rounds off with another performance from We Banjo 3.

This is music television - but certainly not as you know it! Bosca Ceoil is brought to TG4 by Gifted Empire Productions, the team behind this year’s highly successful FleadhTV, which gave TG4 outstanding viewership of over 900,000 over the three nights.

Bosca Ceoil was filmed over the course of one week earlier this year at the legendary Monroe’s Live in Galway city. Now, presenter Pauline Scanlon will bring Irish traditional music live into the homes of Ireland, creating a feeling that the musicians are in the room with the viewer.

There will be some exciting collaborations between artists that you just won’t expect. Wait till you see Sharon Shannon playing with Alan Connor … it’s TV dynamite.

Episode one of Bosca Ceoil can be seen at 10 p.m. on TG4 next Sunday. Here’s a taster: http://youtu.be/-BEyovQ8U4U
