Dick gaughan returns for ballina show

FANS of ‘folk music with a conscience’ are in for a treat when Dick Gaughan returns to Ballina Arts Centre this Friday, September 26, at 8 p.m.

Scottish troubadour Gaughan - blessed with one of the finest voices in folk and capable of capturing the heart with the most traditional of ballads in one moment and stirring the fire of the spirit with his uncompromising commentary on social injustices in the next - has played the guitar since the age of seven and is one of the finest exponents of the art in the world.

For more than 35 years he has been forging an incredible musical legacy and has released a series of powerful solo albums and occasional collaborations, such as Parallel Lines with Andy Irvine.

His unwavering belief in the strength of the human spirit to conquer seemingly insurmountable obstacles has influenced his willingness to sing new songs and rework old ones to accentuate an essential optimism and belief in humanity’s ability to stand up and be free.

Tickets cost €15/€12 and booking is advised on (096) 73593.
