Cockney charm in Me and My Girl

MEMBERS of Claremorris Musical Society are busy getting ready to enthral their audiences with a good old dose of cockney charm. From Wednesday to Saturday, January 25 to 28, award-winning Claremorris Musical Society will present its 11th annual production, Me and My Girl.

This heart-warming tale of true love will delight audiences of all ages. Set in the 1930s, this is the tale of an unrefined, cheeky London chappy named Bill who is discovered to be the heir to the very large Hareford estate and an even larger inheritance. He can only inherit if the executors - Duchess Maria and Sir John - deem him to be a suitable candidate.

The Duchess is convinced she can mould him into a gentleman if she could just get rid of a certain someone. She tries to convince Sally, his true Lambeth love, that she should leave Bill and return to London so that he can focus on his new lifestyle. Bill, however, refuses to let her go and plans to leave if she does.

Meanwhile, money mad Lady Jacqueline, despite being engaged to Sir Gerald, has set her sights on both Bill and his fortune and is determined to win him over with her cunning, wily ways.

Will true love win out in the end? Will Bill become ‘fit and proper’? Will life ever be the same again for those living both upstairs and downstairs in ‘The Big House’?

Described as 'the happiest show in town', this hilarious tale of love, life and the landed gentry has something for everyone. Featuring a host of much loved songs such as ‘Leaning On A Lamppost’, ‘The Lambeth Walk’, ‘The Sun Has Got His Hat On’ and, of course, ‘Me And My Girl’, this superb musical comedy will take you straight back into a nostalgic sunny past and leave you hankering for more.

Once again this year, CMS have a stellar front line to enthral audiences. The role of Bill Snibson will played by John Byrne alongside Mary Dempsey who will play the role of Sally Smith. Duchess Maria will be played by Rosemarie Noone, with Séamas Cafferky taking on the role of Sir John Tremayne. The role of Lady Jacqueline Carstone will be played by Vivienne Lee while Michael Goulding will take on the role of Sir Gerald Bolingbroke.

Supported by a cast of maids, footmen, Lords and Ladies, this is a show not to be missed.

CMS production team of Deirdre Lee, musical director, Hazel McLynn, director, and choreographer and producer June Allison-Keane are once again delighted to be involved with such a talented and enthusiastic group of people. Producer June is delighted with all the new members who have joined Claremorris MS this year and believes the talent and commitment of both long standing and new members will make for one of its best productions yet.

The show will run from Wednesday to Saturday, January 25 to 28, at 8 p.m. nightly in Claremorris Town Hall. Tickets (€15) are available from the Town Hall box office, www.townhall.ie or on (094) 9310999. Alternatively, you can contact June on (087) 6332169.
