Lisa Canny crowned Future Music's Songwriting Champion 2016

LISA Canny has been crowned winner of the UK's Future Music Songwriting Champion 2016 competition.

Mayo-born Lisa, who plays the harp and banjo, won the title with an original song, 'Painted By You', which was co-written by Jonathon Whiskerd.

'Painted By You', which is yet to be released, relates the story of being in love in London, and it was in Camden where Lisa picked up her award.

On a recent appearance on The Late Late Show, presenter Ryan Tubridy introduced Lisa as crossing over so many genres that it was impossible to define her.

Tubridy also went on to suggest she could represent Ireland in the Eurovision Song Contest next year, prompting #canny4eurovision to trend on Twitter.

Lisa will be performing in St. Werburgh's Church, Dublin, next Sunday (January 29) as part of the Women in Folk night with Templebar TradFest 2017, and will perform a headline show at Garbo’s, Castlebar, on February 25.
