Calling all performers. Would you like to be involved in the next big show to be staged in the west?
Can you tread the boards as an actor who also sings? If so, make sure you put this date in your diary.
The new show will be staged in the TF Theatre Royal, Castlebar, and will run from Thursday to Saturday, November 25 to 27, with the option of an extra performance on Sunday.
All proceeds from the production will go to support Mayo/Roscommon Hospice Foundation's palliative care service.
This exciting new production entitled On A Wing And A Prayer – a musical drama, - was written be Terry Reilly, former editor of The Western People newspaper, and author of On A Wing and a Prayer, the book which tells the amazing story behind the extraordinary Monsignor James Horan's many great undertakings, including the building of Knock Airport.
What makes it even more novel is that it has been specifically adapted for the hospice foundation performances in collaboration with Tommy Marren of Midwest Radio, who will produce the show, and who has wide experience in stage productions.
Musical director will be Lavinia Gilmartin of the international award-winning St. Cecelia's School of Song in Ballina, one of the finest academies in the country.
Said Terry Reilly: "It is a very exciting time for the team behind the project, and a great opportunity for actors/singers in the region to get involved in a story that is original, motivational, hopefully entertaining and presents an opportunity to showcase outstanding local talent."
Tommy Marren says it is both a great challenge and a great opportunity and added: "For those of you out there who may have felt your stage opportunity had passed, or for those of you setting out on an acting/musical career, this could be your chance. So let's hear from you."
Open auditions will take place at Knock House Hotel on Thursday, July 27, at 7 p.m. Ideally the promoters are looking for people with both acting and singing stage experience.
All those interested in being involved in the show should contact the hospice office in Knock on (094) 9388666 during office hours from Monday to Friday for more information.
