Winners in the Festival of Sport  5k race held in Westport.Winners in the Festival of Sport 5k race held in Westport.Mayo AC ladies team has been nominated by the AAI to represent Ireland in the European Women's Road Race Inter Clubs Championship in Torre Vedras, Portugal, on October 17.
Mayo AC has established itself as one of the leading ladies club teams nationally in recent years with many successes, including team gold at the 2009 national half marathon at both senior and masters level.
This will be the third time the club will be taking part in this major event having travelled to Italy in 2002 and to Moscow in 2003.

regina hennellyThree Mayo athletes played a major part in Ireland's second place in the European Transplant and Dialysis Games, which were held in Dublin last week.
Ireland were pipped for top position by Hungary in the medals table.
With there best performance ever, Ireland secured the largest haul of medals overall at the Games with an impressive 116, including 40 gold, 35 silver and 41 bronze.
But the table is decided on gold medals, and Hungary finished in the top slot with 45 gold, 31 silver and 33 bronze, making a total of 109 medals. Germany were third with 37 gold medals.

While many will point to the goals in the second half as the turning point of the game, in all honesty Roscommon were the better team over the entire hour.
