For two Englishmen, the lure of Lough Mask – with sunlight dappling its clear, blue waters – proved irresistible.
So beguiling looked the lake that the 84-year-old and his 41-year-old son decided to hire a rowing boat. They did so, heading out around 9.30 a.m.
Some 12 or 13 hours they had to be rescued after they became trapped amongst rocks on the shallow eastern shore of the waterway.
