Castlebar native Gerry Carthy, from Main Street, will make a welcome return to his home town over the end of the year and the beginning of the next. The versatile musician, who now lives in Sante Fe, New Mexico, with his wife Laura and son Michael, is a regular visitor to Mayo. He has been on the faculty with the music department at the college of Sante Fe for a number of years where he has taught classes and private lessons in tin whistle, banjo, guitar and Celtic Ensemble.
He performs at Celtic festivals around the United States and plays regularly in the Sante Fe region.
In the past year he has released a saxophone CD which features many of the old classics — Stranger On The Shore, The Sally Gardens, I Left My Heart In San Francisco, Mona Lisa, etcetera.
Gerry will be in Castlebar this week performing in Breaffy House Hotel on Tuesday, December 28, in Johnny McHale's, Newline, Castlebar, on Wednesday, December 29 and Friday, December 31; in Tolster's Bar, Spencer Street, on Thursday, December 30.
On Sunday, January 2, you can catch Gerry in Stack's Bar. He will also perform a number of dates in Gort, Galway, during his visit.
