Almost €19 million has been allocated by the National Roads Authority (NRA) to Mayo County Council under the 2011 national roads allocations, the Fine Gael spokesperson on Social Protection, Deputy Michael Ring, has learned.
The largest allocation of €2.6 million has been set aside for a major scheme between Westport and Mulranny; €1.9
million for the Westport to Bohola route and €1.2 million for the Castlebar – Claremorris road realignment scheme at Manulla Cross.
A total of €255,000 has been set aside for national primary road safety works, €192,000 for a major scheme on the Charlestown bypass, while a total of €2,741,000 has been allocated for pavement and minor works on national primary routes.
This includes €850,000 for the N5 Castlebar to Ballyvary road at Aughalousky for pavement overlay; €750,000 for pavement overlay on the Charlestown to Kilkelly road at Cloonturk; €630,000 for pavement overlay on the Ballina to Foxford road at Stonehall and €511,000 for pavement overlay on the Foxford to Swinford road at Callow and Belgarrow.
Under the heading of safety the NRA has allocated a total of €106,000 to cover works at Ballina Road, Crossmolina (€6,000); Crossmolina Road, Ballina (€50,000) and Cappagh Crossroads (€50,000).
Allocations for pavement and minor works have been approved for the Ballina-Sligo county boundary at Dooyeaghny (€500,000), Bellacorrick to Crossmolina road at Moneyniern (€460,000), the Bangor Erris to Bellacorrig road at Briska (€430,000), Mulranny to Bangor road at Gorthbrack (€730,000), footpaths in Mulranny (€100,000) and realignment on the Newport to Mulranny road at Knockbreaga (€800,000).
Pavement overlay work will take place on the Westport to Leenane road at Srahlea (€550,000), realignment on the Balla to Claremorris road at Heathlawn (€800,000), realignment on the Castlebar-Balla road at Laganmuck (€720,000), realignment on the Newport-Mulranny road at Knockbreaga (€550,000), Castlebar-Balla road at Drumnaslooeen, Manulla (500,000), Claremorris-Ballyhaunis road at Hollywell Upper (€800,000), Ballyhaunis-Cloonfad road at Devlis (€139,000), Charlestown-Ballyhaunis road at Cappagh (€130,600), Ballinrobe-Kilmaine road at Creggduff (€180,000), Castlebar-Ballinrobe road at Cooley (€134,300) and Castlebar-Ballinrobe road at Derrada (€500,000).
Under the heading of national primary road maintenance a total of €783,071 has been set aside while a total of €1,084,507 has been allocated for maintenance work on national secondary roads.
The total allocation for the country for 2011 is €18,888,978.
