An application has been submitted by Mayo County Council to Fáilte Ireland to develop in excess of 24 kilometres of walkway and cycle trails in west Mayo. The proposal involves the development of a designated pedestrian and cycle routes.
The project will link the walking loops of the Castlebar International Four Days Walking Festival with the Westport Cycle Hub and the Great Western Greenway at Clogher, Westport.
An integral part of the project is the development of the route promoted as part of the Castlebar Four Days Walks in an effort to support and expand on the tourism potential of the successful festival.
It will also maximise the existing lakeside amenities between Castlebar and Islandeady as well as providing a valuable connection with the Westport/Achill branch of the Greenway.
