Forty years after opening as an 11-bedroom hotel, the Castlecourt Hotel is celebrating being awarded four-star status. The 153-bedroom landmark Westport hotel has undergone a comprehensive process of inspection by Fáilte Ireland, and all areas of the operation had to meet the four-star standards for cleanliness, maintenance, cuisine, hospitality and for the quality of physical facilities and delivery of services.

"We are delighted to receive our four-star status," said Joe Corcoran, who owns the hotel with his sister Anne.
"It is a testament to the hotel's award-winning service and attention to detail, which we aim to deliver each and every day. The star ratings reflect the overall quality of the experience each guests receives.
"It has always been our objective to offer a minimum four-star approach to everything we do at the hotel, and this will continue."

The Castlecourt Hotel is also celebrating four decades in business this July.
Established in 1971 by Mai and Petie Joe Corcoran, today the hotel is one of the busiest in the country, with an average occupancy year on year of 85 per cent.
Said Anne Corcoran: "We have managed to remain extremely competitive in the current economic climate through our pricing and as a result we have maintained our staffing levels of over 200 all year round, which alleviates seasonality within the hotel."
The key to the success of the Castlecourt Hotel, she said, is a mix of a wonderful team of staff and a top quality product.

"This is clearly evident in all areas of the hotel from the top quality cuisine prepared by head chef Alain Gaulier, to our luxurious accommodation, to the lively music and traditional ambiance in Petie Joe's Bar," she said.
"There is a fantastic can do spirit to provide the best possible hotel experience for the customer and much emphasis is placed on recruiting the right people for the hotel."
The Castlecourt Hotel has been the recipient of many awards in the last few years and most recently was shortlisted as one of the top wedding venues in Ireland for 2011.
