A MAJOR changing at administration level within Fianna Fáil in Mayo is imminent.
Leonard Ryan, a member of the party’s regeneration committee in the county, has been nominated for the influential role of constituency secretary.
The Dublin-based solicitor, who is a native of Meeltraine, Knock, will replace the long-serving John O’Dwyer in the position once his nomination is ratified.
He spoke to Mr. O’Dwyer over the weekend before allowing his name to go forward for the post. Mr. O’Dwyer indicated he was retiring from the job after dedicated service spanning two decades.
The appointment, which represents the start of a new era for the party in the county, is not expected to be fully ratified until the organisation’s Ard Fheis in the RDS, Dublin, on March 2 and 3.
Mr. Ryan told The Connaught Telegraph he will not make any official comment until such time as his appointment is ratified. He said he was uncertain at this point whether of not he will be opposed for the position.
