ann elliot westport railway station managerIt was a proud moment for Anne Elliott, station manager, Westport, and her team when the station was highly commended in the small station category at this year's Best International Station of the Year Awards (ISAs), which was held in Manchester at a special ceremony at the Museum of Science and Industry. The judges that visited the station were particularly impressed stating: "The

station is 250km from Dublin. It was originally opened in 1866 and is a very busy station to both business travellers and tourists visiting the award winning town of Westport.
"The station has been modernised over the years with vending machines for light refreshments, television in the waiting room and self service ticket vending machines. We were very impressed with the modern facilities and services extended to passengers."
The awards, in their fifth year, recognise railway stations across Europe for their appearance, customer facilities, transport links and commitment to providing great customer service award.
Voting is ongoing in the Iarnród Éireann Best Station Awards with Ballyhaunis, Claremorris, Westport, Foxford and Castlebar stations battling it out for the Best Connaught station.
The winner of the provincial title will go on to be considered for the overall Best Station Award.
Voting is open to all by texting VOTE to 53700 (all texts charged 30 cent) or by logging on to www.irishrail.ie/beststations. All entrants will be entered into a draw to win one of five luxury weekends away.
