Almost 1,100 pints of creamy Guinness disappeared from outside a Castlebar pub on Friday morning last...but regulars didn't go dry for the Bank Holiday weekend because of the unusual theft.
Twelve barrels of Guinness were snatched from Stack's Bar in Thomas Street between 8.10 a.m. and
9.30 a.m. on Friday morning.
Nine kegs of beer and lager, which had also just been delivered, were left untouched.
Pub proprietor, Frank McHale, explained: "The barrels had just been delivered from the depot in Roscommon.
"Whoever took the drink acted very quickly. Twelve kegs suddenly disappeared..
"It was a well planned operation. The kegs were there one minute, they were gone the next. Whoever took them must have loaded them onto a van or small truck.
"In all my years as a public in Castlebar, I never saw anything like this happening before. It may be a sign of the economic times we're in."
Despite the theft, there was no shortage of Guinness in Stack's over the Bank Holiday weekend with the proprietor managing to procure back-up supplies.
Gardaí are investigating.
