Nick clegg helps prelaunch mayo day in manchester

UK Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg helped pre-launch the Mayo Day celebrations in Manchester today (Friday).

The Liberal Democrats leader took time out of his busy election campaign schedule to show his support for the historic worldwide Mayo Day celebrations, which take place all over the globe for the first time tomorrow (Saturday, May 2).

The celebrations in Manchester include the staging of the UK's inaugural Mayo Day evening concert on Saturday at St. Mary’s Parish Hall in Levenshulme, which has completely sold out.

On Sunday there will be a special green and red family fun day at the Chorlton Irish Club from 1 to 5 p.m.

Tony Hennigan, director of Mayo Manchester Tourism and Business Group, said: “The whole of the Irish community in Manchester are looking forward to our Mayo Day weekend, not just those with Mayo roots. We have been helping with the social media campaign for the event and the reaction around the globe has been unbelievable.”
