Toms and roy team up

THE banter was only mighty, as one would expect, when those two great extroverts, Roy Keane and Tomás Langan, met recently in Cork.

The occasion was the launch of Guide Dog Day.

Tomás is one of 31 guide dog users in Mayo. Along with his faithful animal, Usha, he is a familiar sight on the streets of his hometown, Castlebar.

An ambulance despatcher, employed by Murray Ambulances, Tomás says that the difference Usha has made to his life is immeasurable.

Having a guide dog means you can live the way you want to live”, he says.

Both Tomás and Roy urge the public to support Guide Dogs by texting WOOF to 50300 to donate €4.

It costs €38,000 to train a pup as a guide dog so the costs involved in ensuring a constant supply of the animals to clients are extremely prohibitive.
