BCRfm will soon be on air each Saturday and Sunday.

Broadcasting licence for bcrfm

BALLINA Community Radio has been granted a broadcasting licence and will be on air throughout the town and environs every Saturday and Sunday from June 27 to October 4.

The community radio will broadcast on 101.9FM or listeners can go online via www.bcrfm.ie, or from a device using the TuneIn app. Presenters Tom McShane and Barry Rafter will be the first live on air at 9 a.m. with 'The Lie-in'.

The station is broadcasting for 30 days, as Section 68 (1) of the Broadcasting Act 2009 allows the BAI to enter into a sound broadcasting contract with an applicant for a period of up to 30 days in a 12-month period.

The station is a not-for-profit organisation and will continue to be run completely by volunteers who all live in the community and have a passion for the town.

The team, which has already been assembled, is keen to create awareness of local groups, charities and events, and raise the profile of the town and the people that live and work here.

There will be a launch party, sponsored by hosts Ballina Manor Hotel, tonight (Thursday, June 18) from 8 p.m. until midnight. Ballina Community Radio presenters, guests and supporters will gather for this evening of music, fun and fundraising. Admission is by donation on the door.

Raymond Forde, station manager, together with the BCRfm committee and its presenters, has said they have been 'overwhelmed' by the response of the public and would like to thank the continued support from online listeners and sponsors.
