Mayos kevin keane wins red card appeal

MAYO have received a boost ahead of the All-Ireland semi-final clash with Dublin on Sunday week in Croke Park with the news Kevin Keane won an appeal against the red card he picked up in the quarterfinal win over Donegal.

Keane appealed the sanction which would have seeing him miss out in the semi-final as the red card carried a four-week ban.

But, following a meeting of the GAA's Central Hearing committee on last night  his punishment was downgrade the punishment to a yellow card, making him eligible to face Dublin.

Along with the injuries picked up in the quarterfinal encounter against Donegal which have now all cleared up, Keane's availability for the mouth-watering clash is a big boost to Mayo chances.

Meanwhile Tyrone's Tiernan McCann has had his proposed eight-week ban lifted, at the same meeting. It means the Tyrone player will be able to line-out for his county in next Sunday's All-Ireland semi-final against Kerry in Croke Park.

McCann after throwing himself to the ground in an incident that led to the sending-off of Monaghan's Darren Hughes.

McCann had been charged with misconduct that is considered to have discredited the association in his  sides clash with Monaghan in the All-Ireland quarterfinal.
