Disturbing behaviour at castlebar town park

A CASTLEBAR elected representative has described as disturbing and disgraceful the anti-social behaviour taking place at the local town park.

Councillor Lisa Chambers elaborated: 'I was recently out knocking on doors in the Knockthomas area and a number of residents told me of the serious anti-social behaviour happening at the town park.

'I was informed that people have been urinating down the slides, intimidating young children and making a nuisance of themselves.

'This behaviour is disgraceful and disgusting particularly given that it is a space where children come to play.

'Residents are understandably upset and fed up with this behaviour and want the gardaí to put a stop to it.

'Families in the area want to be able to use this fantastic facility in the knowledge it is safe and clean. The facility is so good in fact that we have children from all over coming to play here.

'This playground is a credit to the council and to Castlebar and it is important we protect it and look after it.'

'Most citizens value these facilities and take pride in the town but unfortunately we have some members of our community who are intent on causing trouble.

'I have asked the council to refer the matter to the Mayo Joint Policing Committee and to the gardaí in order to have this issue and the people involved dealt with immediately.'
