Eight new schools for Mayo

THE Department of Education has announced that several new schools in Mayo have been included on its building programme, to go to construction from 2016 to 2018.

One new school is currently under contruction - Scoil Phádraig in Westport – and eight builds are on the list announced this morning, as follows (construction dates in brackets): Sancta Maria College, Louisburgh (2016); Scoil Naomh Bríd, Culleens (2017); St. Brid's Special National School, Castlebar (2017); St. Joseph's Secondary School, Castlebar (2017); St. Joseph's Community College, Charlestown (2017); Holy Trinity NS, Westport (2018); St. Mary's Secondary School, Ballina (2018); Scoil Iosa, Ballina.

Minister of State Michael Ring commented: “This major school building projects for Mayo is very welcome news for teachers, pupils and their parents. A lot of the above mentioned schools have been waiting a long time for this announcement and I am delighted with the commitment which has been given by government for the new school building programme.

In order for students to thrive and reach their full potential it is important that the facilities they have modern and up to date, and these new schools will fulfill this requirement.”
