Welcome jobs boost for south Mayo

MAYO Fine Gael Deputy John O’Mahony has warmly welcomed the news that the OCL Laundry Services, an industrial laundry service company that looks after the laundry requirements of hotels, will be moving into the premises that was home to Irish Pride Bakery on Abbey Street in Ballinrobe until their recent closure.　

Deputy O’Mahony has confirmed that between 20 and 30 additional new jobs will be created at the premises on top of the existing job force that OLC currently employ in Claremorris, with potential for further expansion in the near future.

He stated: 'This is a real good news story for the Ballinrobe area and indeed the south Mayo region. OCL Laundry Services, whose managing director is Ballinrobe native Alan O’Connor, were looking for larger premises to enable them expand their business and when the old Irish Pride building in Ballinrobe became available after being purchased by a local businessman, it provided them with the opportunity to do just that. 

'It is expected that the 20 or 30 new additional jobs will be created once the move is completed in the coming months, with the potential for even more in the near future.

'This development will mean extra economic activity in Ballinrobe and it’s a great boost to the area. Ever since the Irish Pride business closed there I have been working with all the relevant state agencies and the local business community in an attempt to secure a new industry there, and I’m absolutely delighted that this positive development has taken place. 

'The big issue for OCL was the need for extra space. Now that they have that they can look at expanding their business and with that expansion comes the opportunity to create new jobs in the near future. An announcement of new economic activity in a town is always welcome but when that activity is going to be based in a premises that was such an integral part of the economic life of Ballinrobe it seems even more significant.'
