THE Connaught Telegraph’s Young Sports Stars of the Year 2015 award winners. Number 3: Michaela Walsh (athletics).

The records, which seem to grow by the month, set by Michaela Walsh at national and international level speak for themselves.

If 2015 was a phenomenal year for this young lady from Swinford, 2016 looks like it is going to be even better as she develops her mental and physical strength.

In February Michaela started her season in emphatic fashion at the National Junior (Under 20) Indoor Championships in Athlone, where she won gold with a personal best throw in the shot putt.

Her throw also bettered the Under 23 and senior competition at national level.

At the National Juvenile Athletics Awards she scooped a number of top awards, winning the Overall Irish Juvenile Athlete Award for 2014, which she retained again last year.

In 2015 she won a total of  seven international titles, set five international records, 13 national titles and seven national record.

And on top of all that, in her spare time she likes to play Gaelic football.
