Rory Byrne is enjoying the glorious habit of lifting silverware

THE Connaught Telegraph’s Young Sports Stars of the Year 2015 award winners (in association with Baxter Healthcare).

Number 15: Rory Byrne (Gaelic football).

LIFTING cups has become an occupational hazard for Rory Byrne, who hoisted three of them in 2015.

Now we hope he will get his hands on the big prize on St. Patrick’s Day if his club, Castlebar Mitchels, can overcome that not inconsiderable challenge of Crossmaglen Rangers on February 13 in the All-Ireland club semi-final.

But it is not for his ability to raise a trophy and give a rousing speech that he was selected for an award but for his leadership as captain of Castlebar Mitchels and his record in goal in the club championship campaign, which saw him only beaten only twice.
