Second body is recovered from Galway Bay

A SECOND body has been recovered today from the waters of Galway Bay.

It was recovered this morning and it was taken from Galway Docks.

The alarm was raised after a passer-by saw the body in the Docks near the Galway Lifeboat Station and not far from the Rynn Engineering building.

It follows the recovery of another body yesterday from the sea about one kilometre south of Hare Island.

It has not yet been confirmed if the bodies are those of the two men missing in Galway since last month.

Yesterday (Saturday) the body was recovered by the Coastal Rescue Unit from Costello Bay which was searching for two missing men.

It was taken from the water before lunch-time yesterday and brought to University Hospital Galway, where the second body, recovered earlier today has now also been taken. Post mortems will take place.

Gardaí have said that DNA samples have been taken from the families of two men missing in the city and this has been forwarded to a laboratory for analysis.

But it will be at least tomorrow (Monday) before any positive identification can be made.

The two men missing in Galway Bay are Anthony Henehan from Roscommon who has been missing since March 10 and Private Ben Garrett from Castlebar who is missing since March 31.
