No sign of summer this bank holiday

WE'RE heading into the first of the summer bank holiday weekends but someone forgot to tell the weather.

Word from the weather people is to keep the winter woollies and an umbrella to hand – there's going to be some bright spells but watch out for those showers.

Met Éireann is reporting that Friday night will be mainly dry with clear spells and just a few showers on northwest coasts. It will be cold with lowest temperatures of -1 to +2 degrees and with frost in places.

Saturday will be a bright day with sunny spells and some well scattered showers, with highest temperatures of 9 to 11 degrees. On Saturday night a band of heavy rain will move eastwards across the country.

Sunday will start off mostly cloudy with outbreaks of rain. It will brighten up with a mix of dry periods and some showers. It will be noticeably milder with highest temperatures of 12 to 15 degrees and moderate westerly breezes.

Through Sunday night, another band of rain will cross the country. It will clear eastwards on Monday morning with showers following for the rest of the day, some heavy. Highest temperatures of 10 to 12 degrees with fresh, gusty westerly winds.

Tuesday will bring a mix of sunshine and showers.

The weather will continue unsettled through the middle part of next week with rain or showers at times.
