Mayo man accused of manslaughter is granted bail

A MAN charged with the manslaughter of his infant son three years ago has been released on bail.

The charge against John Tighe of Lavalleyroe, Ballyhaunis, was outlined in court yesterday (Tuesday) in Castlebar and he was detained overnight pending the payment of a €2,000 independent surety.

That sum was paid into court today by a neighbour of the accused, who also paid his own bond of €300.

The neighbour said he understood that if the accused breaches bail conditions or fails to appear in court he will lose his €2,000.

Tighe, represented by Mr. Alan Gannon, solicitor, was remanded on bail to appear at Castlebar District Court on July 5 next for service of the book of evidence. An application by Mr. Gannon for legal aid was granted.
