Volunteer for Children In Hospital

DO you have two to three hours to spare weekly? Would you like to make hospital a happier place for a sick child? Then Children in Hospital Ireland (CHI) would like to hear from you.

CHI is one of Ireland's leading children’s charities, providing play and fun for sick children in hospital around the country for over 45 years.

They are currently appealing for volunteers for the hospital play service to work in Mayo General Hospital. They need your help to organise play activities for sick children in the hospital, anything from painting, helping with jigsaws or board games to simple arts and crafts or reading stories.

An induction and interview evening will take place on Tuesday, May 31, from 7 to 8.30 p.m. in Mayo General Hospital. Subsequent training will take place on Saturday, June 18.

If you are interested in attending and to hear more about the organisation and volunteer, send your expression of interest and RSVP to info@childreninhospital.ie.

Hospitalisation can be a very stressful experience for children and parents. Simple play activities introduces a reassuring normality into a strange environment.

Volunteers must be over 18 years of age, enthusiastic, caring, reliable and have two to three hours a week to spare and be prepared to sign up for a year. All volunteers will undergo garda vetting. A comprehensive training programme will be provided, as well as ongoing support.
