West chain of office for Mulroy

WESTPORT-based Councillor Brendan Mulroy has today been elected cathaoirleach of the West Mayo Municipal District.

The Fianna Fáil councillor takes over at the helm of the district for the next 12 months.

Mulranny Independent Councillor Michael Holmes takes up the position of leas-cathaoirleach.

It's been a happening few days for Mulroy, a former member of Westport Town Council, as he was appointed chief whip for the Fianna Fáil party in Mayo last week.

Councillor Mulroy thanked his council colleagues for their support, adding: “I am a very proud man today.”
