Andy Moran shows hot club championship form

ANDY Moran turned up the heat in the Mayo senior football club championship when he scored a hat trick to help Ballaghaderreen to a comfortable victory over Kiltane and put them into the qualifers.

One of the big upsets of the day was Aghamore’s win over Hollymount-Carramore, a Brendan Harrison goal, along with a big display from Alan Freeman, putting the Aghamore men within touching distance of the qualifiers.

They play Ballintubber in the final game and a win for Ballintubber should see them through along with Aghamore following Ballintubber’s easy win over Charlestown where Cillian O’Connor finished the game on 1-8.

Ballina blew their chances of making it to the qualifers when they lost to Crossmolina, who are now back in the frame and wil qualify if they can beat Ballinrobe in their final game.

A big win for Castlebar puts them on course for the last eight following a massive victory over Ballinrobe, who now look set to face a relegation battle for the second year running.

Breaffy also assumed top spot in Group One with a 10-point win over Claremorris, Liam Irwin scoring 1-8 and James Shaughnessy hitting 0-9 for Claremorris who are still without a point.

Garrymore got the better of Davitts to put them in a very strong position to qualify along with Breaffy, while in the late evening game Knockmore are also in a strong position to qualify after a good win over Ballyhaunis.

The Mayo intermedaite championship also threw up some shocks with The Neale crashing at home to Islandeady, while Parke-Keelogues-Crimlin got the better of Kilmaine.

Kiltimagh also recorded a good win over Moy Davitts, while Wesport as good as sealed their place in the last eight by beating Castlebar B.

Belmullet defeated Mayo Gaels, Shrule-Glencorrib also took control of their group by edging past Ardnaree, Swinford got the better of Tourmakeady and Burrishoole were too good for Bonniconlon.
