Minister Canney to meet Crossmolina flood victims

MINISTER of State Sean Canney will now visit Crossmolina on Monday next, July 18, to help address community concerns over flooding.

Mayo Senator Michelle Mulherin has confirmed that he and his officials will meet with locals who are involved with the Flood Action Committee.

He will also meet management of Mayo County Council along with local public representatives.

Said Senator Mulherin: “I have also invited Inland Fisheries Ireland and the National Parks and Wildlife Service who have agreed to send representatives on the day.

“It is important that all stakeholders including government agencies are present so that any issues or obstacles particularly in relation to the implementation of minor flood defence works between now and the coming winter can be addressed comprehensively there and then at the meeting.

“I am delighted the minister is coming and I expect it to reinforce the need for urgency in this matter so that we can see works on the ground very shortly and so that locals can be assured that all that can be done to reduce the risk of flooding next winter is being done.”
