Tuam diocesan secretary appointed Bishop of Killaloe

 

A 49-year-old priest who has served in the Archdiocese of Tuam since his ordination 25 years ago has been named today (Friday) as Bishop of Killaloe.

Fr. Fintan Monahan has been diocesan secretary since 2006.

The Vatican announced his appointment to Killaloe at midday today (Friday).

In a statement announcing the appointment, the Archbishop of Tuam, Dr. Michael Neary described the new bishop as 'a man of deep faith, integrity and humility who radiates a great love for and joy in priesthood.'

During this time in the archdiocese of Tuam, Fr. Monahan worked in the area of communications, vocations promotion and served as editor of the Tuam Diocesan Magazine, New Dawn.

In recent years he joined the Communications Council of the Irish Episcopal Conference.

A replacement to Fr. Monahan as diocesen secretary in Tuam in expected to be announced in the coming month.
