Passing of Ballintubber publican and undertaker

A CLOUD of sadness has been cast over the community of Ballintubber by news of the death of Hugh Corley of The Abbey Lodge Public House in the village.

A hugely popular figure, the publican also ran an undertaking business and was admired throughout west Mayo for his affable and kind nature.

Mr. Corley was predeceased by his wife, Julie, over a decade ago.

He is survived by his daughters Mary, Maggie, Julie, Áine, Cathy and Breege, son Hugh Jnr, brothers Oliver, Sean, Patsy and Martin, sisters-in-law, extended family and wide circle of friends, to whom sympathy is tendered.

His remains will be reposing at Ballintubber Resource Centre from 5 to 8 p.m. this evening (Wednesday).

Burial takes place tomorrow (Thursday) in Ballintubber Abbey Cemetery following Requiem Mass at Ballintubber Abbey at 11 a.m.
