Passing of former Castlebar business woman

THE death has occurred of Maura Carney (nee Criostoir), Chapel Street, Castlebar, and formerly of An Rinn, Dungarvan.

The deceased, a kind and unassuming woman, had been a prominent figure in the town's retail sector .

She initially ran a confectionery shop at Chapel Street before opening a mother and baby store which traded successfully at the location for many years.

Her customers regarded her as a very courteous, helpful and engaging personality.

The deceased was devoted to her family throughout her life and deepest sympathy is extended to Criostoir, Eimear (Horan), Madeline, Micheál and Róisín (Doyle).

She was a sister Norin Clifford and Muirís and is also survived by her sons-in-law, nephews, nieces, cousins, relatives and friends. She was predeceased by her husband, Michael.

Her remains will be reposing at her home this evening (Wednesday) from 6 until 8 p.m. with removal on Thursday at 12.30 p.m. to the Church of the Holy Rosary for Funeral Mass at 1 p.m. Burial takes place afterwards at the New Cemetery, Castlebar.
