Death of much loved Westport personality

A SENSE of immense loss and sadness has been occasioned by the death of Johnnie Lehane, Altamount Street, Westport, and late of Bunrower, Ayle Westport.

A much loved and respected personality, he was a great family man who closely followed the changing fortunes of Mayo Gaelic football over the years.

He had a lifelone interest in politics, both at local and national level, and invariably enjoyed a good conversation on the issues of the day.

In a tribute to him, Minister of State Michael Ring said he had huge respect for Johnnie and the deceased will be sadly missed around Westport.

“He was real gentleman who was held in affection by the community at large. My deepest sympathy is extended to his wife Bridget and family.”

The deceased is also survived by his sons Tommie and John, daughters Maura and Noreen, other family members and friends.

His remains will be reposing at Aughagower Community Centre this evening (Thursday) from 6 o'clock with removal at 7.30 p.m. to St. Patrick's Church, Aughagower.

Requiem Mass for the repose of his soul takes place on Friday morning at 11 o' clock with burial afterwards in the adjoining cemetery.

May his gentle soul rest in peace.
