Man charged over Mayo bookie shop robbery

A MAN has been remanded in custody when he appeared in court today (Monday) charged with aggravated robbery at a bookie shop in Castlebar on Saturday evening last.

Kevin Noonan, whose address was given as Moyross, Limerick, but who is understood to have been living in Castlebar for some time, is charged with the theft of an undisclosed amount of money from Ladbrokes Bookie Shop, Castle Street, Castlebar, around 9.10 p.m. on Saturday evening.

The accused, who is in his thirties, was arrested at Linenhall Street on Saturday evening.

It is understood that a sum in the region €3,500 was taken in the robbery has been recovered.

Garda Sean Ryan gave evidence to Judge Mary Fahy at Galway District Court today of arresting and charging the defendant.

Noonan was remanded in custody at Castlerea Prison to a session of Harristown Court (prison court) on Friday next.
