Corrib Project nominated for national award

THE ‘Corrib Project - Onshore Gas Pipeline’ has been shortlisted for the flagship ‘Project of the Year’ category of the upcoming national Engineers Ireland Excellence Awards 2016 held in association with ESB.

The Corrib Gas Field, approximately 83-km off the coast of Mayo, has become a critical piece of national infrastructure that will produce much of Ireland’s future gas supplies over the next 15 to 20 years.

It is one of the largest infrastructure projects in the state’s history, costing approximately €3.5 billion and will contribute some €6 billion to Ireland’s GDP.

The Mayo Medical Academy, an NUI Galway partnership with Saolta University Health Care Group and Mayo University Hospital for the training of doctors, has also been shortlisted as part of the ‘Heritage and Conservation Award’ category this year.

The winners of the various engineering categories will be announced at a special awards ceremony on November 4 in the InterContinental Hotel in Dublin.
