Families First Award for top Mayo hotel

HOTEL Westport was announced as the Best Family Friendly Hotel at the prestigious Families First Awards held in Donegal.

It has been a very exciting month for Hotel Westport. This 32-county award comes hot on the heels of the hotel being shortlisted to a top 5 in Ireland in both the Hotel & Catering, Gold Medal Family Friendly Hotel Award and the Boots, Maternity & Infant Awards, confirming it as a truly family friendly hotel.

Speaking of the latest win, delighted hotel general manager Declan Heneghan said: “The team have shown remarkable consistency over the years having won many family friendly awards from prestigious organisations, including Georgina Campbell, Hotel & Catering, Gold Medal Awards and the Primary Times Family Friendly Awards.

“Hotel Westport is considered a quality destination. Families appreciate our many amenities at the hotel, and the renowned Panda Clubs, but yet know we are not trying to be a theme park.

“It’s the friendly welcome from all staff, the 'can do' attitude and the culture of the hotel, where the overarching culture is hospitality in a family friendly atmosphere that’s most appealing to families.”

Eithne Cosgrove, director of sales and marketing, said: “The hotel's Panda Clubs, with the famous 'Petie' the Panda Bear, which caters for ages from 4 years to 12 years of age, are a well regarded brand, and serve to make Hotel Westport more recognisable in the marketplace. Guests recognise this brand when we are out and about at the various trade shows both home and abroad marketing Hotel Westport.

“This 32- county award, which has significant recognition in Northern Ireland, gives our marketing efforts further impetus in this important market for us in Westport.”

Mr. Cathal Hughes, chair of the board of directors, was equally delighted. “The Hotel Westport staff are highly regarded for their customer care and welcome for all guests, especially families that holiday at the hotel. Returning guests often ask for staff by name, and this latest award is recognition for that great performance which is delivered consistently,” he commented.
