New €2m credit union offices open in Castlebar

THE new €2 million offices of First Choice Credit Union Limited, Castlebar, has been officially opened this evening by Brian McCrory, president, Irish League of Credit Unions.

He performed the ceremony at the new front entrance to the premises facing onto Market Square carpark.

Mr. McCrory paid tribute to everybody associated with the credit union movement in Castlebar for their vision, conviction and ambition since 1966.

He said the county town of Mayo could boast of having one of the finest and most modern branch offices in the country today.

John Burke, president, First Choice Credit Union Limited, Castlebar, said the new building was a tribute to the oustanding work and professionalism of the main contractors, Mountain View Securities, and the team of sub-contractors.

“It is a proud day for us and we are endebted to our staff and our customers for their co-operation and understanding while work was ongoing over the past number of months.”

The project consisted of the renovation and extension of the existing credit union building with the construction of 638 sq. metres of additional floor space over two floors.

The occasion also marked the 50th anniversary of the founding of the organsiation in Castlebar which now also has branches in Achill, Balla, Ballyhaunis, Carnacon.
