BREAKING NEWS: Head of Mayo Campus of GMIT resigns

THE Head of the Mayo Campus of GMIT in Castlebar, Dr. Deirdre Garvey, has resigned from her position.

The Connaught Telegraph has learned that the Ballyhaunis native informed staff at the centre of her decision within the last 48 hours.

A statement on the matter is awaited by this newspaper from the GMIT's communications office in Galway.

Dr. Garvey's bombshell decision, understood to relate to frustrations over ongoing funding shortages which have placed uncertainty over the future of the facility, has plunged the campus into crisis.

Dr. Garvey has been a member of the staff in Castlebar since 2008 and took over as Head of the Campus in 2012.
