Death of retired Castlebar veterinary surgeon

THE death has taken place of Joe McAllister, Blackfort, Newport Road, Castlebar.

An affable and respected personality, the deceased was a retired veterinary surgeon attached to the Department of Agriculture and he had been based at the former Bacon Factory in the county town for many years.

Joe was devoted to his family and enjoyed a round of golf, a walk at Lough Lannagh or a good conversation in his spare time. He will be remembered as a true gentleman.

He is survived by his wife Peggy, family Eoin, Fiona, Fergus and Clodagh, grandchildren Darragh, Bronwyn, Sorcha, Cian and Rossa, daughter-in-law Edel, brother-in-law Billy Flynn, nephews, nieces, grandnephews, grandnieces, relatives, neighbours and friends, to whom sympathy is tendered.

His remains will be reposing at his residence this evening from 4 p.m. with removal at 7 p.m. to the Church of the Holy Rosary, Castlebar.

Funeral Mass takes place on Monday at 11 a.m. with burial afterwards in New Cemetery.
