Death of retired Mayo University Hospital staff member

THE death has taken place of Michael Fadden, 'St. Josephs', Knockthomas, Castlebar, a much loved and popular personality.

A member of an old and respected Castlebar family, his passing is widely mourned in the county town.

The deceased was a retired member of the staff of Mayo University Hospital, where he served as store manager for many years.

Before joining the hospital staff, he had been an employee of the former Durkan's Hardware Store at Main Street in the town.

Michael served as an officer with the 5th Motor Squadron FCA, Military Barracks, Castlebar, and was also a former chairman of Castlebar Concert Band.

Paying a tribute to him tonight, Declan Hynes, current band chairman, said Michael contributed hugely to the organisation over many years and had an immense love of brass band music.

'We extend our deepest sympathy to the Fadden family on their loss,' he added.

The late Mr. Fadden is survived by his wife Chris, son Joe, daughters Mary, Bernie and Ann, sister Rita, aunt Evelyn Kenny, relatives and friends.

He was predeceased by his son Michael and sister Maura.

His remains will be reposing at the Coady Funeral Home, Linenhall Street, tomorrow (Saturday) evening from 6 o’clock with removal at 7.30 p.m. to the Church of the Holy Rosary.

Requiem Mass takes place on Sunday at 12 o’clock with burial afterwards in the Old Cemetery.
