More recognition for Kelly's of Newport

KELLY'S of Newport have gained more recognition for their commitment to excellence with the announcement today that they were highly commended in the food and drink category of the SFA National Small Business Awards 2017.

It's proof positive – as if any more were needed – that Kelly's are among the best in the business when it comes to making black and white pudding and speciality sausages.

The business, which has been in existence for over 80 years, certainly lives up to its motto: 'We make up to a standard, not down to a price'. It's a confident declaration of a commitment to premium quality.

Kelly's of Newport, now a limited company, consists of a retail high street butchers shop, a manufacturing unit and a cafe. The manufacturing unit produces a range of black and white puddings and speciality sausages, under the Kelly's brand, that are sold in the shop, to many outlets around Ireland, mainly in the greater Dublin area, and in the UK.

The winner of the food and drink category was Simpli Baked, Offaly, with The Foods of Athenry also coming highly commended. The overall winner of the SFA National Small Business Award 2017 was Ventac – based in Blessington, Wicklow – which provides noise control solutions for manufacturers of industrial vehicles. The outstanding small business, a category in which Mayo-based firm Big Red Barn was a finalist, was won by Sweetspot Sourcing, Kildare.

Commenting on the awards, SFA chairperson Sue O’Neill said that with with the right environment, companies like those who made the final will 'revitalise every corner of our island'. It was a privilege, she added, to have 34 of the best small businesses from 13 counties in Ireland at the awards ceremony.

“You are the future of Irish business,” she stated. “You have proven your commitment, drive and ambition and we are delighted to celebrate your achievements.”
