Investment to improve safety at 23 Mayo schools is outlined

SAFETY in the vicinity of over 22 Mayo primary schools and one post primary school are to be improved as a result of a €295,500 investment as part of the CLÁR funding.

The news of the funding has been welcomed by head of roads with Mayo County Council, Paul Dolan.

He stated: “This funding is focused on issues such as safety at schools and the development of amenities for young people in rural areas.”

The breakdown on spending is as follows.

Ballycroy NS: Provision of footpath extension to school gates along N59, €70,000.

Swinford NS: Provision of new lining on approach roads, child safetysigns and bollards to prevent parking on paths, €6,500.

Ballinrobe NS: Provision of pedestrian crossing, €22,000.

Cong NS: Speed safety signs, €14,000.

Tooreen NS: Speed safety signs, €14,000.

Tourmakeady NS and Secondary School: Driver feedback signs, €14,000.

Craggagh NS: Diver feedback signs, €14,000.

Errew NS: Diver feedback signs, €14,000.

Derrywash NS: Diver feedback signs, €14,000

Loughanamon NS: Relocate school warning lights finishing works required on school grounds, €60,000

Bekan NS: Provision of 50m footpath to facilitate pedestrian drop off, €10,000.

Bonniconlon NS: Child safety signs, €1,000

St. John's NS: Carramore: Road lining and child safety signs, €2,000.

Killasser NS: Road lining and child safety signs, €3,000.

Cuilmore NS: Road lining on approach road, €3,000.

Midfield NS: Road lining/child safety signs, €3,000.

Meelick NS: Road lining /child safety signs €3,000.

Moygownagh NS: Child safety signs/road lining,€2,000.

Killacoraun NS, Keenagh: Child safety signs, €1,000.

Aughleam NS: Upgrade road markings, €2,000.

Newtownwhite NS: Road lining, €1,000.

Binghamstown Village: Pedestrian crossing, €22,000.
