Hotel to reopen following refurbishment

A TIMESCALE of 18 months has been set for the reopening of Healy's Hotel, Pontoon, which has been closed for a number of years.

UK based businessman Michael Cusack successfully applied to Judge Mary Devins at Castlebar District Court today (Wednesday) for an ad-interim transfer of the hotel licence to Pontoon Anglers Hotel Limited, a private limited company.

Mr. Cusack, who is originally from the Bofeenaun area, gave an undertaking to the judge that the premises won't be operational in the current licensing year.

He said refurbishment works are planned and he cannot foresee the premises being reopened for a year and half.

Mr. Cusack, who includes a public house amongst his business interests in Britain, said he is familiar with the Irish licensing laws.

He added that a manager will be employed to run the hotel in Pontoon but explained that no decision has yet been taken on the managerial appointment.

On a personal note, Judge Devins expressed delight that Healy's will be reopening.
