New dementia day care unit

WESTERN Alzheimers has announced they will shortly open a day care centre in Foxford which will cater for up to 12 dementia sufferers, writes Tom Gillespie.

The unit will operate between three to five days a week.

Western Alzheimers CEO, Pat Holmes, said: “Ww are hoping to open a day care centre in Foxford in the next month or so. Our aim is to open more day care centres and support people in the community where people can come in and get involved in meaningful activities under the supervision of specialist nurse-led teams.

“We will be able to care for up to 12 people in Foxford. It is our intention to have that running between three and five days a week.

We would like to open a day care centre anywhere where there is a blackspot in support of people living with dementia.

Our ambition is to lighten the impact of a dementia diagnosis on the person themselves and the family and try and keep them living in the community where they can have a meaningful life.”
