VIDEO: Mayo.ie release eye-catching footage celebrating 'Mayo-ness' ahead of Mayo Day

VIDEO: Mayo Day, the festival celebrating ‘Mayo-ness’, have released a stunning short film capturing the vast cinematic beauty of one of Ireland’s most rugged and best loved western counties.

The film, written and directed by award winning Mayo Director Lorcan Hynes, will resonate not just with the people of Mayo but Irish people everywhere, whatever your county colours!

 The Mayo Day film charts universally Irish themes of immigration, rural identity its hardships, its triumphs and the undeniably special spirit of County Mayo and features Mayo people from all walks of life, from Brass Bands to GAA stars, Firemen to Factory workers, Choirs to Surfers.

Voiced by well known Mayo Actor Seamus Moran with an original score from renowned film composer Garreth Averill, the film also features beautiful sequences in New York City charting the untold experience of the many immigrants living across the world.

Mayo Day, which this year is spread over three days, will see arts, history, music and street theatre come alive to celebrate a special sense of 'Mayo-ness' at home and abroad from 29 April 2017 .

Mayo Day started off two years ago as a novel initiative and has grown from one day to a full-on bank holiday weekend festival of cultural and historical events aimed at drawing in visitors from across Ireland.

Mayo Day offers communities, families, businesses, and individuals an opportunity to celebrate who the County is, where it's come from, and its people.

 The Mayo Day film, commissioned for Mayo Day 2017 by the hugely popular diaspora site Mayo.ie, connects Mayo people from all around the world, building an ever growing global Mayo family.

Organisers of the initiative, Mayo County Council, have ensured that the bank holiday weekend programme is packed with plenty of family-friendly events that will bring culture and history to life – for locals and tourists.
