Three in a row for digital school of distinction

LAST Monday saw a third Eir Junior Spider win for a small digital school of distinction on the Galway/Mayo border.

Cloghans Hill NS has 15 pupils and boasted an impressive four finalists projects in this year's Eir Junior Spider Awards for web-based projects.

They were represented in Croke Park in the best individual project category by Anna Farragher with her website on DIY ideas for girls, Cian Mangan and his website on caring for your rabbits, and Aoibheann Mangan with her website Scratching the surface of code.

In the best group catergory they were represented in the final by Eva McAndrew and Aoibheann Mangan's website about Cloghans Hill science, a website created as part of the school's application for the DPSM Plaque of STEM Excellence.

There was great excitement when Eva and Aoibheann were announced as the winners of Best Group Project.

The school has a great history in the competition and had already won best group project in 2015 when then third class pupils Aoibheann Mangan and Padraic Godwin won the accolade for their website www.farmsafety4kids.net, while in 2016, Aoibheann winning the best individual project for a website she built around the raspberry pi computer.
