Murder trial jury discharged

THE jury in the trial of a 17-year-old who is charged with the murder of another youth in Claremorris in December 2015 was discharged this morning (Tuesday) by Mr. Justice Paul Butler.

The case against the accused, who denies murder, will be heard by a new jury at the Central Criminal Court in July.

Following legal argument from the prosecution and defence, Mr. Justice Butler said he was discharging the jury.

The judge offered his regret and sympathy to both famillies involved in the case.

The new trial, which is fixed to start on July 11, will be heard before a different judge as well as a different jury.

The accused, who cannot be named for legal reasons, is charged with the murder on December 19, 2015, of Dovydas Jenkas, a fifth year student.
