Weekend assaults on gardaí

TWO Mayo-based garda officers are recovering after being assaulted in incidents at the weekend.

One officer – male – was allegedly headbutted in Ballina Garda Station after transferring a suspect there from Swinford on Saturday evening.

The garda was treated in hospital following the incident but was later released.

Also on Saturday evening a garda (female) was injured when assaulted while dealing with an incident at Neale Road, Ballinrobe.

The officer was treated in Mayo University Hospital and was later discharged.
